Exciting New Camp Program for 2011
An exciting new program, emphasizing high adventure and troop and patrol activities, will be in place at Cedarlands Scout Reservation in 2011. New programs include outpost adventures, sporting clays, a 3D archery course, mountain boarding, crafting a custom canoe, crafting Adirondack furniture, whitewater rafting, hiking the high peaks, and much more. Also new for 2011, troops will be able choose either patrol cooking and prepare their own meals in their sites or can eat dining hall style under the dining pavilion.

New Pre-Camp Photo Gallery
The Friends of Cedarlands Photo Gallery Section is now open! We also have a special pre-camp photo gallery of Cedarlands available to view!

"I had the opportunity to take an afternoon hike through Cedarlands two weeks before summer camp is due to start! There have been many opinions about the logging in base camp this year. I want this gallery of photos to clear up any misconceptions about Cedarlands being 'clear cut' or 'destroyed,' as that is clearly not the case. I was very happy with what I saw on my hike and had a great time getting these pictures!"

In Remembrance Of Dan Richards
With a sad heart I need to inform you all of the death of Dan Richards. Dan was a staff member at Camp Russell between 1997-2002 and 2005-2006. Dan has been the Conservation Area director and counselor for cooking, pioneering and woodcarving, as well as being a Voyageur for both Camp Russell and Cedarlands.

Dan worked over the summer at Yellowstone and Mammoth National Parks. He was hit by an oncoming car that drifted into his lane on Thursday afternoon. According to Dan’s Myspace page he was heading home in mid-October.

Anyone that knew Dan knew he was doing what he wanted with life being outdoors and educating thousands of people about Yellowstone and Mammoth. As he wrote in June, “I’ve been having a blast talking to visitors and learning more and more about the park.”

While many of you did not know Dan I was lucky enough to be around him many times down at Camp Russell. His enthusiasm and knowledge were a great asset to the campers and staff there, and everyone in the Revolutionary Trails Council will miss hearing of his tales out west.

I know my prayers and all of ours are with his family as they struggle through this time in their lives.

~ Aaron Strong
